Public holidays and collective leave
Public holidays are days off nationwide. Collective leave days (cuti bersama) are set by a joint decree of three ministers, usually next to a holiday to create a long break. They are days off for civil servants; private employers may observe them, usually by counting them against the employees' annual leave, so check your employer's policy.
Why some dates are tentative
Islamic holidays follow the lunar calendar, and the government confirms the exact date after the new moon is sighted, so Eid and other Islamic holidays can move by a day. Dates marked tentative have not been confirmed for that year. The dates on this page come from Google's Indonesian holiday calendar and a community dataset that agrees with it; the authority is the joint ministerial decree (SKB 3 Menteri).
Frequently asked questions
Are shops and offices closed on collective leave days?
Government offices are. Many private offices close too, but it depends on the employer; shops and malls usually stay open.
How long is the Eid al-Fitr break?
The two days of Eid al-Fitr are public holidays, and collective leave days around them usually make a break of a week or more. See the table for the exact days.
Do these dates apply in Bali?
Yes, they are national. Bali also observes Hindu ceremonial days, and on Nyepi the whole island, including the airport, shuts down for 24 hours.
Do employees have to work on public holidays?
No. Employees are not required to work on public holidays, and monthly-paid employees keep their full monthly wage. An employer who asks for work on a public holiday pays it as overtime; see the overtime pay calculator.
