Indonesia BPJS Contribution Calculator
See what is deducted from an employee's salary for BPJS, what the employer pays on top, and the total monthly cost of the employee.
The five programmes
Employees in Indonesia are covered by two agencies. BPJS Kesehatan runs national health insurance: 5% of the wage, 4% from the employer and 1% from the employee, counted on wages up to IDR 12,000,000. BPJS Ketenagakerjaan runs four employment programmes: old-age savings (JHT, 3.7% employer and 2% employee), pension (JP, 2% employer and 1% employee, counted on wages up to a cap that is revised every March), work accident insurance (JKK, paid by the employer at 0.24% to 1.74% depending on the risk group of the work) and death benefit (JKM, 0.3%, paid by the employer).
Example: IDR 10,000,000 a month
The employee pays IDR 400,000 a month. The employer pays IDR 1,024,000 on top of the salary (with JKK at 0.24%), so the employee costs IDR 11,024,000 a month before any other benefits. Budget for this difference when comparing an Indonesian salary offer with the actual cost of a hire.
Who must be enrolled
Article 14 of Law 24/2011 requires every person, including a foreign national who has worked in Indonesia for at least six months, to be enrolled in the social security programmes. Employers register their employees and pay both shares, deducting the employee share from the salary.
The pension wage cap used here, IDR 11,086,300, applies from March 2026 to February 2027 according to published reports; we have not yet matched it with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan's own circular, so the cap is an editable input.
Frequently asked questions
Who pays JKK and JKM?
The employer, in full. They are never deducted from the salary.
Can JHT savings be withdrawn?
Yes, under conditions such as retirement or leaving employment. Check the current rules with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan before planning on it.
Is BPJS part of taxable income?
Under the PPh 21 rules, health, JKK and JKM contributions paid by the employer count as the employee's income, while the employee's own JHT and pension contributions reduce taxable income at the annual calculation. The salary calculator treats the amount you enter as the gross income.
