Which rate is this?

These are reference rates: the European Central Bank publishes them once per working day, around 16:00 Central European Time, and the rupiah rates are cross rates derived from them. They are good for comparing and estimating, but no bank trades at exactly this rate. Banks, money changers and transfer services add a margin, so the rate you receive is lower when you sell a currency and higher when you buy one.

Two other official references exist in Indonesia: Bank Indonesia's JISDOR rate for the US dollar, and the Ministry of Finance's weekly tax exchange rate (Kurs Pajak), which is the one used for tax invoices and tax returns.

How often is this page updated?

We check the source several times a day. The ECB itself publishes once per working day, so the rate stays the same over weekends and holidays.

Why does my bank show a different rate?

Banks and money changers add a spread to the reference rate, and many quote separate buy and sell rates. Compare the total amount you receive, including fees.

Which rate should I use for tax?

The weekly tax exchange rate (Kurs Pajak) set by the Ministry of Finance, not a market rate.
